Schuylkill County Gets Set for 2012

Teens Against Tobacco Conference

Plans are underway for the 2012 Schuylkill  County Teens Against Tobacco (TAT) Conference.  The Teens Against Tobacco (TAT) Conference will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Minersville Area Jr./Sr. High School (snow date is January 19th).  The Conference will invite tobacco-free teens, ages 13 to 18, from throughout Schuylkill County and provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become ‘tobacco-free educators and advocates.’   Following the excitement of the Conference, school TAT teams will complete tobacco prevention elementary and/or middle school presentations along with tobacco prevention community projects.        

Evidence indicates that peer-led programs such as TAT are more effective in reducing tobacco use among youth.  Younger children will benefit by seeing positive role models tell the truth about tobacco.  The mentoring by teen participants serves to reinforce their decision to remain tobacco-free.
